Kate Middleton

It is undoubtably the most famous engagement ring in the world - Kate Middleton’s stunning blue sapphire. It was originally bought by Prince Charles in 1981 as the engagement ring for William’s late Mother, Princess Diana. Not only does it hold a special meaning to the royals, it also hold a considerable value. The piece consists of 14 solitaire diamonds, which surround a 12-carat oval blue Ceylon sapphire set in 18-karat white gold. When bought by Charles it was worth £28,000, but since it graced Kate’s hand in 2010, its worth has rocketed to £300,000 - three times more than the Queen’s engagement ring.

Queen Elizabeth II

Prince Philip proposed to Queen Elizabeth in 1947, with a simple but elegant diamond ring. The Queen regularly wears the ring which is a 3-carat solitaire, flanked on each side by five smaller diamonds, all set in platinum. Adding a piece of heritage to the ring, Philip had the diamonds taken from a tiara owned by his mother. It was originally bought for £10,00 and is now worth £100,00.

Michelle Obama

Back in 1991, Barack Obama presented his first lady with a modest 1-carat diamond. It is smaller than the average famous ring, however it is a timeless piece that fits perfectly with Michelle’s classic and sophisticated style. The ring was bought before Obama became president and was working as a lawyer. He paid £7,500 for it and it is now worth £20,000.

Kim Kardashian

Kim Kardashian owns her fair share of diamonds, but its almost certain that non will be worth anywhere near her engagement ring, which was presented to her by now husband, Kanye West in 2013.The over-the-top 15-carat, emerald cut ring was designed to appear to be floating on air and Kanye is said to have been involved in the design, each step of the way.Not so modest, the ring is worth a staggering £5.1 million!
